The first ever Treme/7th Ward Arts & Culture Festival is happening this Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29. The festival kicks off on Friday with tours of Treme and the 7th Ward, panel discussions, and the Babydoll Bar Crawl through ten different libations spots. Tickets are required for these kickoff events but the rest of the festival is free to attend.
On Saturday, three second lines will pass on N. Claiborne from Basin Street to St. Bernard. Saturday's music lineup includes Rebirth, Kermit Ruffins & the BBQ Swingers, and Corey Henry & the Treme Funktet. Sunday kicks off with an Elders Gospel Brunch and a second line through Congo Square. A performance by the Andrews Family of Music will follow.
The city is launching its Jump-Up to Clean-Up Second Line anti-littering campaign following the festival on Monday. Corey Henry & the Treme Funktet will celebrate their album release with a block party following the campaign event.
