Dear Listener,
We had a blast at French Quarter Fest last weekend, and there's plenty of live events action all this week, like our broadcast of Betty Harris at the Old Point Bar. But the big one is coming: 2 full weekends of Jazz Fest, plus WWOZ Piano Night (April 26), not to mention the house parties and night concerts. We may even top it off with live coverage of the Mayor’s inaugural bash on the riverfront the day after the Fest.
If that's not enough, don’t forget Bayou Boogaloo (May 21-23) and the Louisiana Cajun/Zydeco Fest
(June 11-13). And our Black Ops team will be sending you live
performances direct from the (Washington) D.C. Jazz Fest (June 9-12).
We hope you enjoy all this great music as much as we enjoy bringing it to you.
Yours in ‘OZ CDs and Mango Freeze,
David Freedman
General Manager

WWOZ Piano Night
The 22nd annual WWOZ Piano Night lands in the House of Blues on Monday, April 26, right between the two weekends of Jazz Fest. This tribute to the classic piano sounds of New Orleans will include Marcia Ball, Sunpie Barnes, Carol Fran, Joe Krown and many more, plus tons of surprise guests. To ensure you don't miss this extremely special night, we'll be broadcasting it live on air and online. In Memoriam: Spring 2010
Please join WWOZ in remembering the musicians who passed recently: Rockie Charles, Bernard "Bunchy" Johnson, Marva Wright (pictured), Alex Chilton and Herb Ellis. We hope to brighten the spirits of their fans, friends and family by keeping their music and memories alive on the airwaves and in our hearts.
Live Broadcasts Galore
If our live broadcasts from French Quarter Fest, Piano Night and Jazz Fest aren't enough for you, we've got lots more coming up this month at WWOZ. We'll broadcast The Lost Bayou Ramblers and Jon Cleary (pictured) from Young Leadership Council's Wednesday at the Square concert (April 14), as well as a rare appearance by soul legend Betty Harris with an all-star band led by Marc Stone at the Old Point Bar (April 15). We're scheduling more all the time—stay tuned to our Live Broadcast page for updates.
On April 28, two of New Orleans' most beloved musicians, Eddie Bo (pictured) and Edward "Sheba" Kimbrough (Professor Longhair's original drummer), will be honored at Margaritaville in the French Quarter, where both often played. The event is sponsored by friends of Eddie Bo and Edward Kimbrough, and music will be provided by friends and family. Two framed plaques will be dedicated and mounted at the bar to commemorate the musicians.
Food at the Fest
If you haven't been to our food section lately, you're missing out. We've got all kinds of stories in there about New Orleans cuisine, as well as our archive of recipes that appear here in the 'OZone each month. You won't want to miss our Jazz Fest Food Spotlight series for tips on what's new and delicious at the Fairgrounds this year.
