We may be in the middle of Carnival season but there's already plenty to look forward to this spring! French Quarter Fest announced its 2015 lineup yesterday, and the weekend looks to be full of familiar names, as well as some exciting new ones, with over 1400 artists taking to 21 stages throughout the French Quarter. This year, the 32nd annual incarnation of the festival takes place between April 9 and April 12.
Allen Toussaint and Ellis Marsalis will open the festival on Thursday, April 9 at the Abita Stage. Little Freddie King, who is featured on this year's official poster, will hit the stage on Saturday, April 11. The Wild Magnolias Band also has a tribute to Big Chief Bo Dollis planned for Saturday. Kermit Ruffins plays on Sunday. Other familiar names include Rebirth, Panorama, Treme Brass Band, Tuba Skinny, Creole String Beans, Walter 'Wolfman' Washington, Russell Batiste, Jr., The Dixie Cups, Storyville Stompers, Big Al Carson, Leroy Jones, Irvin Mayfield, and MANY more.
Non-musical highlights include a crawfish eating contest, panel discussions and interviews with a variety of artists, dance lessons, a gala and, of course, a wealth of food and drink options from local vendors.
French Quarter Fest continues to grow, and with this fantastic lineup, we won't be surprised to see last year's attendance record of nearly 733,000 broken again.
