Sarah Quintana is a multi-faceted singer-songwriter who employs her angelic voice and guitar chops to weave effortlessly between folk, jazz, Cajun, and French stylings. Her 2024 release, Live in Marseilles, is quintessential Quintana: ballads, danceable tunes, and classics from the New Orleans canon. Another recent project, The Sarah Quintana Band, brings the veteran musician together with an all-star band, including Rex Gregory, Jason Jurzak, Rose Cangelosi, and Chris Beros-Hagis, with guest spots from pals like Louis Michot (Lost Bayou Ramblers) and Leyla McCalla. She can also be heard on the trad jazz circuit with The New Orleans Moonshiners. Quintana alternates between her homes in New Orleans and France, where she performs with French jazz-vocalist Marion Rampal and saxophonist Raphael Imbert.
Quintana has also made a name for herself among Cajun music fans as a member of the band Michael Doucet avec Lâcher Prise. Doucet, the Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, artist, founder of BeauSoleil, and Cajun legend, released a 10-song album titled Lâcher Prise in 2020. The band offers up an energetic, eclectic mix of styles ranging from swamp pop to Caribbean beats to New Orleans rhythm and blues.
Perhaps one of Quintana’s most interesting projects showcases her ingenuity and willingness to improvise, which grew out of her experiences studying straight-ahead jazz in Europe post-Katrina. Back in New Orleans, thanks to a residency at A Studio in the Woods, she recorded the the Mississippi River and incorporated those soundscapes into an alt-country/jazz project entitled Miss River, which became both the name of her band at the time and the resulting CD.
Quintana is a New Orleans native who studied at the prestigious New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts and earned a BA from Loyola University New Orleans. She is also a hatha yoga instructor.
