Our poster for the 30th annual WWOZ Piano Night, which honors Fats Domino, is based on a painting that Fats kept hanging in his home on Caffin Street for many years.
“Since this year’s Piano Night is dedicated to his memory and legacy, it is particularly special that our poster is based on a painting that Fats himself liked and displayed in his own home,” said Joe Krown, pianist and Piano Night producer. The painting was destroyed during the flooding from Hurricane Katrina, but luckily the artist, Haydee Ellis, had a photograph of the painting, and generously offered it to WWOZ for the Piano Night poster,” he said.
Additionally, WWOZ announced that noted New Orleans artist Frenchy will create live paintings of several of the musicians as they perform on stage at Piano Night. These original, one-of-a-kind works will be for sale at the event. Performers include Jon Cleary, Marcia Ball, Ellis Marsalis, Henry Gray, Davell Crawford, Tom McDermott, Joe Krown, Bob Seeley, David Torkanowsky, Al “Lil Fats” Jackson, John Autin, and special guests.
Piano Night will be held on Monday, April 30, at 6:30 pm at the House of Blues, New Orleans. General Admission tickets on the floor are $52.50. Several tiers of VIP tickets, some featuring reserved seating and cuisine by Jacque-Imo’s, start at $102.50.

"This will be an especially meaningful Piano Night as we honor Fats, and the response from the community shows that. We have already sold out of several tiers of tickets, and the remainder are going fast,” said Ruth Chouest, chair of Piano Night. “I think fans of New Orleans music will also be excited to know the history of the image captured in the poster. We are thrilled that Haydee Ellis, an artist and a close friend of Fats’, provided this photo and its unique story," she said.
