Welcome to Danny Barker Week on WWOZ! Each morning this week, 9-11am CT, our trad jazz show hosts will be paying tribute to the great jazz guitarist, singer, banjo player, and a composer. This year, we've partnered with the Danny Barker Banjo & Guitar Festival to share their special celebrations of the man who did so much for New Orleans music. Why this week? Danny Barker's birthday, of course. He was born January 13, 1909 (d. March 13, 1994). 

On Monday, Dan Meyer will be sharing rare snippets from Danny, himself, held at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation Archive. On Tuesday, Leslie Cooper will focus on Danny's wife, Blue Lu Barker, and her own vast influence, in a special historic piece narrated by Germaine Bazzle. And lots more to come from Michael Longfield, Sally Young, and Keith Hill on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. 

On Thursday, the Danny Barker Banjo & Guitar Festival begins! This year, of course, the event will be virtual, and WWOZ is partnering with the festival to bring their audience and our audience a space to celebrate this special musician. Each interview and performance can be viewed at Danny Barker Festival's Facebook page, WWOZ's Facebook page, or WWOZ's YouTube channel.
