Git yer whiskey out for a listening session with New Orleans rockabilly-inspired band The Rotten Cores and their new album, Sunset Limited. Released at the beginning of August, Sunset Limited is the second full-length album out from this 4-piece. Their hybrid sound of vintage country and punk rock is reminiscent of groups like The Pogues, Reverend Horton Heat, Jason & the Scorchers, and Slim Cessna's Auto Club. The group is led by singer/guitarist Aden Paul, who is accompanied by co-founder and upright bassist Kade Alexander, drummer Roy Durand, and Dr. Sick on fiddle.

For fans of the dark world of cowpunk, Sunset Limited brings just what you're looking for. The fiddle flies throughout the album, and sounds especially good on the album's title track and "Decade." Many of the songs on this 11-track release evolve quick and smooth, running from lilting to fast honky-tonk and back again, most notably on "Being Us" and "Pipelines." The entire album is strong and cohesive, but "Unwelcome Guest," the next-to-last track, manages to stand just a bit taller than the rest.

The Rotten Cores are known to frequent spots like Checkpoint Charlie's and Verret's Lounge for their live shows. Check our livewire music calendar for any upcoming performances.

Sunset Limited is available on MP3 at iTunes and on MP3 and CD at Amazon and CDBaby.
