Multi-instrumentalist Greg Schatz puts a funky twist on the blues in his new album Everything That You Wanted, out now on Hot Spazz Records. The album features easygoing Southern sounds on tracks like, "It's A Beautiful Day" and "Just Along For The Ride." It forays into blues with "Just Tell Me When" and "That's My Jam," and gets jazzy with songs like "Honky Squonk" and "It's The Insanity." A self-described "roots rock" artist, Schatz's new album has a little something for everyone, with traditional New Orleans sounds sprinkled throughout. John Boutte, Susan Cowsill, and Helen Gillet appear as guest musicians on Everything That You Wanted, along with many other recognizable New Orleans names.
Schatz moved to the Crescent City in 1995 to perform as an accordionist with the Big Mess Blues Band before moving into other projects as a bassist and pianist. Today, he frequently performs with Alex McMurray and Doug Garrison while maintaining his day job as entertainment manager for French Quarter Festivals, Inc. where he books acts for French Quarter Fest, SatchmoFest, and the Christmastime series at St. Louis Cathedral.
You can catch Schatz at his regular gigs every third Wednesday at Three Muses and every week at Poppy's Crazy Lobster Bar & Grill. Below, a song from his appearance at the 2013 Bayou Boogaloo.
Everything That You Wanted is available on CD from the Louisiana Music Factory, or on MP3 from CDBaby. He also has a few tracks from the new album available for free on his website.
