Nathan and The Zydeco Cha Chas hit the scene in 1985 with the hard-charging, accordion-driven music that fills dance halls and festival grounds across South Louisiana and around the globe, including Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, European festivals, and the Grand Ol Opry. Williams grew up in a musical, Creole-speaking family in St. Martinville, Louisiana, and as a youngster sought out Clifton Chenier and other pioneers of the musical form. He mastered the accordion, and dedicated himself to a musical career. The Cha Chas are a family affair, including brother Dennis Paul Williams on guitar (and is also a highly-respected painter), cousin Allen Williamson bass, Djuan Francis, Nathan’s cousin and godson, and Clifford Alexander, who spent 23 years with Clifton Chenier, also checks in on rubboard. Inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2005, Nathan Williams has also received the Zydeco Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The Cha-Chas have been voted the top Festival Band in the country, and have won the coveted Big Easy award for Best Zydeco Band for several years running. Favorite tunes include “Your Mama Don’t Know” and “Zydeco Cha Cha” from Hang It High, Hang it Low.
