The Honey Island Swamp Band brings together elements of funk, blues, rock, reggae, and hot, greasy Southern swamp in a unique, danceable, compelling sound that has been described as “Bayou Americana.” Honey Island was founded in San Francisco by refugee New Orleans musicians who found themselves stuck after Hurricane Katrina and the federal levee failures. Today, the band is led by multi-instrumentalist Aaron Wilkinson, and also includes guitarist and vocalist Lee Yankee, bassist Sam Price, keyboardist Chris Spies, and drummer and vocalist Garland Paul. The band tours heavily, keeping fans engaged with melody-driven setlists that might include “High River Rag,” the rocking “Sugar for Sugar,” or the popular classic, “Chocolate Cake.”
