Festival favorites Flow Tribe bring a raucous, colorful energy and street parade feel to the Caribbean-funk-rock sound they’ve dubbed, “back-bone crackin’ music.”
Flow Tribe was founded in 2004 by six students from New Orleans’ Brother Martin High School, but after graduation they went their separate ways. However, after Hurricane Katrina, they returned to the city to rebuild, and revived their energetic musical project as a way to rejuvenate spirits.
As Flow Tribe began touring, audiences embraced their danceable shows and music that incorporated many components of the New Orleans canon: jazz, funk, rock, R & B, hip hop, and infectious Afro-Cuban rhythms. An appearance on a 2010 episode of MTV’s “The Real World” cemented their reputation – and their popularity. The band began playing festivals, including main stages at The Voodoo Music Experience and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. They’ve opened for Trombone Shorty and performed at the Kennedy Center. Amidst a grueling touring schedule, they recently built a state-of-the-art studio, Downman Sounds.
Flow Tribe includes K.C. O'Rorke, John-Michael Early, Chad Penot, Bryan Santos, Mario Palmisano, and Nick Solnick.
In 2017, Flow Tribe recorded the CD “BOSS” with legendary producer Mannie Fresh (Lil Wayne, Big Tymers). Exemplifying the band’s diverse sounds, the album reached both #55 on the Billboard R&B charts and #5 on the Relix/Jambands.com chart. The band has released several other CDs, videos, and singles.
