Donna Angelle & The Zydeco Posse reflect the bandleader’s lifelong passion for music and her south-central Louisiana roots. Born Donna Charles in Cypress Island, Louisiana, and schooled in neighboring Breaux Bridge, Angelle was a multi-instrumentalist in her school band while influenced by Curtis Mayfield, Gladys Knight, and Soul Train as well as by the Cajun and zydeco sounds that permeated the neighborhood. Angelle cut her chops as keyboardist with Bobby Price and with Cosmic Sky, played bass with Barbara Lynn and Archie Bell, and led her own groups, including Chapter IV and now The Zydeco Posse. Her driving accordion calls down the dance-groove stylings of old school hip hop, soul, and zydeco to form a unique and energetic sound. Favorites include “Catin,” “Rockin’ it Steady,” and the tribute anthem, “A Man Like Boozoo.”
