On Thursday, January 2nd, clarinet and sax genius Victor Goines stopped by WWOZ to share his newest CD "Morning Swing" and his insightful thoughts about jazz and life.  On his own "Rosemary Joseph Records" label, "Morning Swing" is Victor's salute to Benny Goodman --- hence he plays the Bb clarinet exclusively.

This Saturday Victor will join former Jazz at Lincoln Center colleague and percussionist par excellence Herlin Riley at Snug Harbor (8 and 10 p.m.).

On January 17th and 18th the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra presents newly-commissioned works by Victor and Ted Nash. Featuring special guests New Orleanians Wendell Pierce, actor and star of HBO's "Treme," and GRAMMY® award-winning saxophonist Branford Marsalis, it promises to be one of the highlights of the 2014 jazz year.

Victor Goines is widely recognized as one of the most engaging and versatile jazz performers, composers, collaborators and educators in music today. Drawing from his New Orleans roots including St. Augustine High, his extraordinary career includes performances throughout the world earning acclaim from audiences, critics, students and colleagues.

Victor is famous for his two decade long collaboration with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and his leading role as a jazz educator not only at Xavier, Loyola and UNO, but also heading the Jazz Studies Department at Juilliard and currently at Northwestern University

One of his proudest acheivements, however, is that he was a former Deejay at WWOZ.
