In Memoriam 2019It was a tough year for the New Orleans music and cultural community: we lost an extraordinary number of talented and influential individuals in 2019. During June and July alone, Dr. John, Dave Bartholomew, Art Neville, Leah Chase, Spencer Bohren, and Lil Buck Sinegal were among those who passed away. It's Carnival Time!Carnival season is upon us: Krewe de Jeanne d'Arc marched on Twelfth Night last Monday evening. There's tons of fun goings-on between now and Mardi Gras Day on February 25. Folk Alliance International Conference, January 22-26The Folk Alliance International Conference comes to New Orleans January 22-26. Now in its 32nd year, this gathering draws some 2,900 people dedicated to folk music, making it the world’s largest gathering of the folk music industry and community. The long list of performing artists with Louisiana ties includes Leyla McCalla, Sean Ardoin, Dwayne Dopsie, among others. |

Volunteer Spotlight: Stacey CunninghamStacey Cunningham started volunteering at WWOZ in the early 1990s. Here's what she says about being a listener, volunteer and supporter of WWOZ. "As a listener, WWOZ means that I get to learn something new almost every time I tune in. As a volunteer, I get to play a part in creating something that means so much to the community and people around the world. As a member, it means I get to be part of a passionate team doing important work." Well said! |

Recipe: Green ChileHere's something new for those frosty evening parades. This recipe blends aspects of green chile as made in New Mexico, in which the "green" comes largely from the green New Mexican chile pepper, and verde, one of the seven moles of Oaxaca, Mexico, wherein the "green" comes from tomatillos and herbs. It's a bit of a production, but all the steps are easy, as long as you have a good blender. |
