Show Host Spotlight: Elizabeth MenerayElizabeth Meneray began volunteering at WWOZ in the early 2000s, before Hurricane Katrina hit the city. She learned to program music and operate the board under the guidance of the late, beloved Clinton Scott, host of "Sittin’ in with Clint." In her non-'OZ life, Liz is an attorney who practices family law in New Orleans. We thank her for taking the time to share her exquisite collection of jazz on vinyl with us every Sunday afternoon from 4-6p during her "Sitting In with Elizabeth Meneray" show. |

Volunteer Spotlight: Dianna & Mike ThompsonIt feels like Dianna and Mike Thompson have always been part of the WWOZ family, so it's hard to believe they started volunteering at 'OZ in the summer of 2016! According to Dianna, she and Mike were just walking around the Quarter, saw the WWOZ sign and decided to come in and visit their favorite New Orleans station. Dianna grew up in New Orleans but moved to Atlanta after marrying Mike in 1990. They love this city, and being part of WWOZ makes it that much more special. We thank Dianna and Mike for giving so generously of their time and expertise as WWOZ volunteers. |

New Orleans Film Festival, October 17-25The New Orleans Film Society will host their 29th annual Film Fest, October 17-25. It's another groundbreaking year for the Oscar-qualifying festival, with 220 films representing a wealth of perspectives, culled from nearly 6000 submissions and 120 countries. Among the notable music-related films: A Tuba to Cuba, a documentary that follows the Preservation Hall Jazz Band as they retrace their musical roots in Cuba, and the world premiere of director Lily Keber's Buckjumping, which takes the pulse of present-day New Orleans by turning to its dancers. |

Recipe: Arroz con PolloThere are many versions of Arroz con Pollo (Chicken with Rice) around the world: it's near-universal family-friendly comfort food. This colorful Latin American version, which features saffron and lots of tomato, is a kind of country cousin of paella, though with long grained rice. Which means it's also kin to jambalaya. |
