John Goodman Lends a Hand to WWOZ
About half way through the merriment, WWOZ General Manager David Freedman and actor John Goodman thanked the attendees for their generous financial support of WWOZ’s work.
David gave a brief state of the station report which was filled with good news and big plans thanks, in large part, to the financial support provided by Social Aid & Pleasure Club members.
Goodman, a longtime generous supporter of WWOZ, remarked to the group that he has loved good radio since he was a child, and that WWOZ is a very rare treasure that deserves to be supported and preserved. Shortly after the event, John was off to Europe to promote his new Speed Racer movie, which debuted in theaters around the world May 9th.
Social Aid & Pleasure Club guests enjoyed a delicious menu which included vegetarian stuffed mushrooms, Indian spiced nuts, penne pesto pasta salad, grilled baby peppers, mini lemon tarts, and mini walnut brownies. Many thanks to personal chef Karen Beem, who volunteered her time and culinary expertise to prepare and serve the feast, along with her talented volunteer catering crew — Karen Gauthier, Lisa Kavanaugh and Sue Keevers.
WWOZ is also grateful to Jon Smith and Cork & Bottle, Gary Darling and Zea Beer, Acqua Panna and Carrollton Flower Market for providing wine, beer, cool beverages and lovely flowers for the party.

WWOZ’s Social Aid & Pleasure Club was initiated to build a community of members interested in supporting & sharing in the station’s mission in very significant ways. Members support the station with an annual gift of $1,000 or more.
Revenue supplied by the Social Aid & Pleasure Club provides the foundation for WWOZ’s creative future.
Most importantly, Social Aid & Pleasure Club members play an important role in ensuring the continued success of the station that so many people in New Orleans and around the world depend on, learn from and enjoy.
