There's a fun opportunity this month for the kids in your life who've got the beat! The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and Positive Vibrations are partnering to offer a week of free African drum classes called 'Congo Kids.' The classes will be taking place March 14-18 from 4:30-6:30p at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center. Participants will have the opportunity to perform on March 19 at the Congo Square Rhythms Festival.

Artists from Mali, Senegal, and the U.S. will provide youth workshops focusing on Mande music and include history and instruction in Djembe, Sabar, Dunun, Kora, Djeli Ngoni, and guitar. The workshop is open to kids ages 10-16. This workshop will have a strong emphasis on traditional percussion, but is also open to guitar, saxophone, brass, and other melodic instruments. Participants who attend all of the workshops will receive an instrument voucher. Pre-registration is required and can be completed at this link.
