Auditions for the spring semester of the Jazz & Heritage Foundation's free music program will be held Saturday, January 9 from 10a-12p. Auditions for the Don "Moose" Jamison Heritage School of Music will be taking place at the George & Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center located at 1205 N. Rampart St. Classes for chosen students will be held on Saturdays from 10a to 1p  and Thursdays from 5p to 7p.

Auditions will also be held for two new programs: The Jazz & Heritage Brass Band and the Jazz & Heritage A Capella Choir. All three are free and open to students between the ages of 10 and 17 who live in the greater New Orleans region. Register for the auditions here.

The Don "Moose" Jamison Heritage School of Music has been operating since 1990 and is the Foundation's longest-running education program. The school teaches performance technique and theory of jazz music. The instruction is universal and may be applied to all styles of music, but the focus is on jazz - which is the cornerstone of all American music. The Heritage School provides instruction in brass, woodwinds, piano, voice, brass, drums, guitar, and music theory. Students must use their own instruments.

Instruction is provided by some of the best jazz musicians and educators in New Orleans, including Derek Douget, Edward "Kidd" Jordan, Leah Chase, Michael Pellera and Meghan Swartz, Peter Harris, Don Vappie and David Mooney, Leon Brown, and Ricky Sebastian and Geoff Clapp.

More information on requirements by instrument and full spring semester schedule is available here.
