New Orleans lost many great artists and culture bearers in 2020. With smaller funerals, no second-lining, and no traditional sendoffs, it has been very difficult for the community. Today, during Festing in Place: Happy New Year from New Orleans, we'll be airing a memorial second line, radio-style, to honor and celebrate the lives of all who are not entering 2021 with us. It will air around 2pm CT (time not exact).
The people we lost in 2020 includes 5th Ward Weebie, Robert Parker, Lucien Barbarin, Geoff Douville, Henry Gray, Dwight Miller, Ronald W. Lewis, Black n Mild, Harold Scott, Ellis Marsalis, Leona Grandison, George Brock, Counsel Chief Joe Jenkins, Big Al Carson, Tony Allen, WWOZ's Brother Jess/The Midnight Creeper (Jesse Hathorne), Alfred Uganda Roberts, Randy Falcon, Wendy Good, Edward Anderson, Tami Lynn, Jim Oertling, Rod Bernard, Big Queen Kim "Cutie" Boutte, Bryan Lee, Fred Parker (Chocolate Santa), Andrew "Junior" Robertson, Ronnie Kole, Sylvester Francis, Laura Painia Jackson, Roy Head, Reverend John Wilkins, Joe Tullos, Katie Ray, Van Broussard, Ezell Hines, Tony Hoofkin, Irvin Banister, Sr., and Jimmy Thibodeaux.
