The Louisiana Association of Broadcasters today awarded WWOZ 90.7 FM the top award in the state in the category BEST LIVE ON-SITE REMOTE for comprehensive coverage of the 2018 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The award recognizes the top broadcast from a live, on-site location. Criteria include entertainment value and production as well as information value.

"We are thrilled to receive this honor, especially as we prepare to celebrate Jazz Fest’s 50th Anniversary,” said Beth Arroyo Utterback, WWOZ General Manager. Our coverage of last year’s fest was heard worldwide and included seven days of live performances from multiple stages as well as interviews with musicians, artists and culture bearers. This
award is the result of the incredible efforts of WWOZ’s staff, show hosts and volunteers, and, of course, the talented musicians whose performances were featured."

Our Jazz Fest coverage spans a wide breadth of musical genres - blues, traditional jazz, swing, big band, modern jazz, contemporary jazz, and of course, New Orleans brass bands
and Mardi Gras Indian music.

In 2018, WWOZ aired performances from dozens of artists, including Ellis Marsalis, Blind Boys of Alabama, Samantha Fish, Bobby Rush, Tab Benoit, Jesse McBride presents the Next Generation, Original Pinettes Brass Band, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Panorama Jazz Band, TBC Brass Band, New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, Gerald French and Tuxedo Brass Band, Joe Krown Trio, Little Freddie King Blues Band, Luther Kent and Trickbag, Meschiya Lake & The Little Big Horns, Tim Laughlin, and Walter Wolfman Washington.

The Prestige Awards are sponsored annually by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters to recognize outstanding achievements by Louisiana radio and television broadcasters. This competition was established to encourage the highest standards of reporting, community service and production creativity.
