The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation presents the 29th annual Johnny Jackson, Jr., Gospel Is Alive! Celebration, a free community concert featuring gospel star Bishop Hesekiah Walker plus Tyrone Foster & The Arc Singers and the Council on Aging Community Choir on Monday, April 30 at 9:30a at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church (2515 Franklin Ave). Admission is free.
The Gospel Is Alive! concert is an outreach program for senior citizens in the New Orleans area. The concert is also open to the public. School groups are welcome; for more information call (504) 558-6100. Also performing will be the Council on Aging Community Choir.
The Gospel Is Alive! Celebration is named for the late Johnny Jackson, Jr., a longtime board member of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation, who passed away in February. A tribute to him will be part of this year's event.
Bishop Walker is a popular American gospel music artist and pastor of prominent Brooklyn New York megachurch, Love Fellowship Tabernacle. A two-time GRAMMY Award winner, Bishop Walker and LFT were nominated in 2001 for an NAACP Image Award for Best Gospel Artist (Traditional) on the strength of the album "Love Is Love!"
