Mackie and Henry F. Holden while performing at a school dance, soon signing to their Take Fo' Records label. DJ Jubilee's debut cassette, Stop Pause, appeared in 1995, followed later that same year by the full-length DJ Jubilee & Cartoon Drew. After returning in 1996 with 20 Years in the Jets, he issued Take It to the St. Thomas two years later.” - Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide “DJ Jubilee (Jerome Temple) is the current face of a musical movement in New Orleans called Bounce. The hip-hop style involves shouting chants for the audience - and once DJ Jubilee, 44, began his rise - creating dances to match those chants. Hit songs like Juvenile's "Back That Thang Up" and Master P's "Wobble Wobble" centered on phrases DJ Jubilee invented for bounce. The New Orleans superstar has a new album, 2010 Ward, coming out this summer.” - Matt Levin, Spinner.com “Where They At: New Orleans Bounce and Hip-Hop in Words and Pictures” Exhibition opens April 22 and runs through July 25, 2010. Bounce music's signature beats and call-and-response chants are deeply rooted in New Orleans’ Mardi Gras Indians and second-line traditions. Using images, music and the artists' own voices, the exhibition documents pioneering New Orleans rappers from the 1980s and 1990s ¬ the period when bounce music evolved, melded and interplayed with lyrical hip-hop and gangsta rap in New Orleans to create a unique, hybrid Crescent City sound that is the newest branch of Southern roots music. Photographer Aubrey Edwards and journalist Alison Fensterstock, over the course of 18 months, photographed and interviewed more than 40 rappers, DJs, producers, label and record store owners from the New Orleans bounce and hip-hop music scene. The exhibition includes original portraits and interview excerpts, original video and audio, collected artifacts including vintage records, tapes, scene snapshots and other ephemera. In collaboration with the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Sponsored by the Greater New Orleans Foundation. A selection from the exhibit will also appear in the Grandstand at the 2010 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell. Wednesday April 21 around midnight we will be hosting a "Bounce Special" on the 10 to 12 Kitchen Sink Show.
