Today's Wednesday at the Square event in Lafayette Square was packed!  And what a beautiful day - low humidity, sunny and cool.  I wish it would stay like this for a few months, but I have lived here too long to know that I have to appreciate the present moment.  I walked from the 'OZ station across the French Quarter to downtown where the free concert had already started.  On my walk I heard some good solo trombone playing in the street only to turn a corner to find Keith "Wolf" Anderson (pictured, right).

After listening to Wolf play for a little while I crossed Canal St., then Poydras, and got to Lafayette Square where the first band, The Creole String Beans (featuring former Cowboy Mouth bassist, Rob Savoy) were rocking out the early crowd.

It was so crowded that getting good photos wasn't easy, but I did my best.  I ran into an assortment of old friends and WWOZ show hosts while enjoying some pulled pork from The Joint, one of the food vendors set up in tents along the perimeter of the square. 

Cowboy Mouth exploded on the stage full of energy as they always do.  I have seen every incarnation of this band for the past two decades, and today was definitely crowd pleasing with lots of hoots and hollering and interesting dance moves from their loyal fans.

What I loved most about the event on top of the glorious day was the fact that this concert series happens for free during the middle of the week for the whole city to enjoy.  The Young Leadership Council (YLC) is doing an excellent job of supporting the culture and music of New Orleans and for that they should be applauded.
